Our Story

About Buddha's Art of Healing

Buddha's Art of Healing is the oldest Thangka painting shop and art gallery located in Boudha, Kathmandu, Nepal. Since 1976 AD, we've been preserving and promoting the sacred art of Buddhism through traditional Himalayan and Tibetan craftsmanship.

Our Founder: Vision and Journey

Founded by Mr. Hom Bahadur Tamang, Buddha's Art of Healing reflects his lifelong dedication to Thangka painting. From the young age of eleven, guided by his elder brother, Mr. Tamang immersed himself in this sacred art form, cultivating a passion for learning and teaching. He often says, "Every day is a learning day".

That isn't just a group of words. They define what we are as human. His vision is to create a nurturing space where artists can thrive while preserving the centuries old traditions of Nepal and Tibet. Through mentorship and dedicated training, he ensures that Thangka painting continues to flourish and that artists are empowered both spiritually and economically.

Our Art and Craft

At Buddha's Art of Healing, we preserve the essence of traditional Buddhist art through:

  • Thangka Paintings: Carefully handcrafted, preserving centuries old iconography.
  • Healing Bowls: Handcrafted neatly for spiritual and meditative practices.
  • Statues: Intricately designed to reflect authentic Buddhist teachings.

We invite visitors from around the world to explore the history, philosophy, and spiritual significance of each creation. Personalized sessions offer insights into the artistry, symbolism, and cultural context of our works.

Trainings and Mastery

Our school classifies artists into three levels:

  1. Trainees: Undergo a rigorous 6 months initial training learning the basics of colors, scrolls, and foundational techniques.
  2. Intermediate Artists: Continue reflecting their skills, deepening their understanding of Buddhist iconography and Thangka traditions.
  3. Masters: Highly respected in Buddhist culture, masters embody decades of experience and the ultimate level of artistic and spiritual dedication.

Our trainings not only preserves this sacred art but also empowers indigenous communities such as the Tamang people, helping them build viable careers while honoring their heritage.

Cultural and Spiritual Significance

Located at Boudhanath Stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage site, our school and gallery are at the heart of a vibrant Buddhist community. The grand eyes of the Stupa symbolize the universality of Dharma, radiating energy and life throughout Boudha. This location allows us to preserve and celebrate Buddhist culture where it matters most, surrounded by monasteries, history, and spiritual energy.

Empowerment and Philanthropy

Buddha’s Art of Healing is committed to empowering women and supporting artists from diverse backgrounds, including Tibet and rural Nepal. We provide fair opportunities, training, food, shelter, and guidance, fostering self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.

We are also affiliated with local monasteries, channeling profits into charitable initiatives to support monastic communities and orphaned children.

Looking ahead, we aim to expand into Nepal’s rural areas, bringing employment, cultural preservation, and support to underserved communities.
