Chenrezig — Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit — is the Bodhisattva of Compassion, the embodiment of the loving-kindness of all the Buddhas. In this thangka he is depicted in his four-armed form, seated in meditation upon a lotus throne, his primary hands pressed together at his heart holding the wish-fulfilling jewel, while his secondary hands hold a crystal mala and a lotus blossom. His gaze is gentle, all-seeing, and filled with boundless care for all sentient beings.
Chenrezig is the patron bodhisattva of Tibet, and his mantra — Om Mani Padme Hum — is the most widely recited in the Tibetan Buddhist world. This thangka is a natural centerpiece for any altar or meditation space, radiating an atmosphere of warmth, openness, and compassionate presence. It is a timeless gift for practitioners and seekers of all backgrounds.
