Guru Rinpoche Mantra Mandala Thangka | Hand-Painted Art from Nepal

A mandala is a sacred circle, and in a mantra mandala, the circle is built from the mantra, written in Tibetan script, ring after ring. At the heart of this mantra mandala sits Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), shown on a lotus throne beneath a glowing jalo. The whole mandala is arranged around his presence.

What You'll See in This Mandala

• Guru Rinpoche at the center. He wears his lotus hat and layered patterned robes, with his right hand raised in a ritual gesture.
• Ritual emblems. His left hand holds a skull cup with a vase of nectar, and his khatvanga staff rests at his shoulder.
• Rings of mantra. Tibetan script in black, red, blue, and white circles him in concentric rows.
• A radiant aureole. Fine rays and an ornate border of golden scrolls and jewels glow behind him.
• A lotus throne and soft clouds. Layered lotus petals support his seat, and clouds drift behind him.
• Four endless knots. One appears in each corner, symbols of interdependence and auspiciousness.
• A calm, refined palette. Soft ivory, gold, and muted blue-green tones give this piece a contemplative character.

The deity is the focus, with mantras surrounding him. Every hand-painted mandala thangka is unique, and the mantra lettering on this piece is written by hand. In this mandala, the glowing details are pure 24k gold, which does not tarnish or fade. It glows softly in daylight and warmly in lamplight, giving the deity’s presence a quiet radiance. If this painting speaks to you, don't wait for it to pass. Brocade mounting and monk's blessing are available upon request.
