This thangka presents Guru Rinpoche β Padmasambhava, the Lotus-Born Master β in his timeless form as the great tantric adept who carried the Vajrayana teachings from India to Tibet in the 8th century. Seated in royal ease upon a lotus and moon disc, he holds the vajra scepter aloft in his right hand and cradles a skull cup filled with the elixir of immortality in his left, while his khatvanga staff rests against his left shoulder, symbolizing his consort and the three kayas.
Guru Rinpoche is revered across all schools of Tibetan Buddhism as a source of blessings, protection, and swift spiritual progress. His gaze β direct, penetrating, and compassionate β is said to awaken the recognition of oneβs own nature. This thangka is a powerful and enduring presence for any altar, shrine room, or sacred space.
