Namgyalma β Usnishavijaya in Sanskrit β is one of the three principal long-life deities of Tibetan Buddhism, alongside White Tara and Amitayus. She is depicted in this thangka in her three-faced, eight-armed form, radiating a golden luminosity that embodies the purifying power of her mantra β said to be so potent that even animals who hear it are freed from the lower realms of rebirth.
Namgyalma is invoked to purify negative karma, extend life, and liberate beings from the cycle of suffering. Her mantra is traditionally inscribed on prayer wheels, stupas, and stones so that the wind, water, and earth may carry its blessings to all beings. This thangka is a profound support for long-life practice and purification, and a deeply meaningful image for anyone engaged in the care of the dying or the dedication of merit to departed loved ones.
