This hand-painted thangka shows a lineage tree with Vajradhara at its center. Vajradhara is the deep-blue primordial Buddha, seated on a lotus with his arms crossed at the heart. Around him, rows of seated lineage masters fill the branches of a large green tree, each with a halo and a throne. Rainbow arches and temple roofs frame the crown, and smaller figures sit on clouds at the upper corners.
The tree is arranged like a refuge field, so the whole path appears in one composition:
- Lineage masters: Dozens of teachers sit in the branches in descending rows, showing the unbroken line of transmission from teacher to student.
- Buddhas and bodhisattvas: A group of Buddhas sits in the left-hand arch. A group of bodhisattvas sits in the right-hand arch.
- Meditational deities: The central wrathful deity and the four dancing dakini figures sit in the lower branches.
- Dharma protectors: A row of dark, fierce protectors stands among flames and clouds along the tree’s lower roots.
- Offerings and devotees: At the base, a lotus lake and the tree trunk are surrounded by offering gifts, devotees in prostration, and animals, including a tiger, deer, horses, and birds.
Hand-Painted by Skilled Artists in Nepal
Each figure is drawn with fine linework and given its own colored halo and seat. The sky, clouds, and tree are shaded in gradients, so the surface stays detailed from the center out to the border. Because every thangka is painted by hand, small differences from the photo are natural.
