Vajrapani β the Holder of the Thunderbolt β is the Bodhisattva of power, energy, and the indestructible force of enlightened mind. One of the three principal bodhisattvas of Tibetan Buddhism alongside Manjushri and Avalokiteshvara, he is depicted in this thangka in his wrathful blue form, standing amid flames with his right hand raised holding the vajra β the symbol of indestructible reality β and his left hand in the threatening mudra that subdues all negative forces.
Vajrapani embodies the power of the Buddhaβs mind to overcome all obstacles, both inner and outer. He is invoked for protection, for the removal of obstacles, and for the cultivation of the fearless energy needed to walk the spiritual path with full commitment. This thangka is a dynamic and powerful presence for any altar or meditation space, particularly for practitioners engaged in purification and obstacle-clearing practices.
